17 million Nigerians in dire need of food assistance…FAO

Recent data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO, reveals that 17 million people are in dire need of food assistance In Nigeria while about 25.3 million people in 26 States and the federal capital territory are expected to be in Food and nutrition crisis or worse situation between June and August 2023.

The report points to Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states as the most vulnerable due to shocks from insurgents, other factors like high food inflation arising from the COVID-19 lockdown, the Russia, and Ukraine war, and road transport extortion. Some food experts have described the situation as extremely worrisome for a country with a rising population.
