2023: Atiku Worked Against Zoning Because This Is His Last Shot At Presidency – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has explained why Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, has him in a rage.

Governor Wike claims that he is not happy with the former vice president for opposing the party’s zoning plan.

Wike stated that he is not upset with Atiku because he won the party’s presidential nomination over him, but rather because Atiku disregarded the zoning plan.

The governor of Rivers State claimed that Atiku opposed zoning because the 2023 presidential election is his final opportunity to win office.

Wike in an interview with BBC Pidgin said;

If that conspiracy isn’t there during the dying minute, the candidate knows there’s a problem, and I said if I’m angry to that extent I would challenge it but I want the survival of the party, I allow it then other things come up.

The issue of zoning was important, when we met, most of us raised the issue of zoning, which is provided in the constitution of the party.

They set up a committee and agreed that the national chairman should go to the north, when it reached the presidential ticket matter, they set up a committee but to tell you they are not sincere, the committee never came up with a resolution and they went by forms, what is the implication?

Which zoning are you talking about, they did it deliberately and the mastermind is a so-called presidential candidate today.

When that happened, the national chairman on his own knowing that this is the tradition of the party, came up to say if the presidential candidate comes out from his zone he will resign. Now when it happened, for him to fulfil his promise he said no.

Wike speaking on why Atiku worked against zoning in the party said;

He believes thats if he does not become president now, he will not become president, so to him, this is his last chance, so he did everything to work against the zoning.
