Bendel Insurance FC Overtake Remo as Tanimu scores on birthday

Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin on Saturday evening pipped Abia Comets by a lone goal in Benin to reach the Nigeria National League (NNL) Group B2 Summit.

Insurance reliable defender Benjamin Tanimu was the hero after scoring the only goal of the match in the 26th minute for his side on his birthday.

It was indeed a beautiful header from the birthday boy converting a superb corner kick by Insurance mercurial midfielder Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi from the left flank.

Tanimu had relied on his strikers to make his day for him by scoring good goals as pleasant
birthday packages but he turned out to be the one to do the magic himself.

The rescheduled NNL week 16 encounter which was played behind closed doors and under strict adherence to Covid-19 protocol could be likened to UEFA champions league finals as it brought out the best in the two teams.

Insurance undoubtedly returned to League action stronger and better after Remo incident that forced them out of action for over a month as they remained resilient in their style of play and maintained the lead the visitors till the end in spite of all that Abia Comets Technical Manager Bethel Orji threw in, making complete five substitutes in his well designed plans to spoil the day for their host who needed the three maximum points to rekindle their hope for playoff qualification on the road to immediate return to the nation’s elite football division.

Insurance have not recorded any home draw and loss this season.

Insurance pulled away goalless draw at Abia Comets in the first stanza of the League.

The home victory has now pushed the Benin Arsenals atop the table with 34 points,tied with bitter rivals Remo Stars but lead with higher number of goals.

Insurance will be playing host to Apex Krane FC on Wednesday, July 28 in another outstanding game and victory in the game will make the coach Monday Odigie led side more comfortable on top of the table as the League season approaches its end.
