CBN deputy governor Obiora reportedly arrested by DSS

Kingsley Obiora, the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has reportedly been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS). The arrest is said to be related to allegations of financial mismanagement during the tenure of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended CBN governor. Obiora is responsible for economic policy at the apex bank.

This arrest comes as part of an ongoing investigation into the CBN under Emefiele’s leadership. Emefiele himself has been in DSS custody since June 10, 2023, the day after President Bola Tinubu removed him from office. In July, Tinubu appointed Jim Obazee as a special investigator to oversee the probe into the activities of the apex bank under Emefiele.

Spokespersons for the DSS and CBN, Dr Peter Afunanya and Dr Isa Abdulmumin, respectively, have not yet responded to inquiries about this matter.
