Court Orders Emefiele Charge or set Free By DSS

Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) suspended governor, must appear in court if there are any criminal allegations against him, according to a federal capital territory high court order to the Department of State Services (DSS).

The former CBN governor should be released on bail, according to the presiding judge, Hamza Muazu, if he is not brought before an appropriate court within a week.

On June 9, President Bola Tinubu asked Emefiele to hand over his duties to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, the deputy governor of the operations directorate, after suspending him.

Emefiele was taken into custody by the DSS for “some investigative reasons” the following day, according to the DSS. Emefiele filed a lawsuit against the DSS and the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) through his attorney, Joseph Daudu, in an effort to uphold his constitutional rights.
