The Edo state government has embarked on monitoring exercise in making sure schools comply with the safety protocol put in place by the state government to see the level of compliance in other to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The monitoring team visited some schools in Benin City and it environ to see the level at which schools are complying with the directives of the government.
The team is made up of combine of members from the security agencies, the red cross society of Nigeria, COVID-19 response team, and and some official from the National Centre for disease control (NCDC).
The with a mandate to ensuring the pandemic is contained, most especially among student, visited Imaguero Junior Secondary School; Oredo Girls Junior and Senior Secondary School as well as Igbinedion Montessori Nursery and Primary schools.
The leader of the team Mrs. Irene Uabor, who is also the Edo Healthcare Development Agency and Mr simon Idoko who also duble as the risk communication officer of NCDC in Edo state,had a chrt with the principles and staffs of the school visited as where as some student, they demonstrated to the school om the proper way to wash their hands and wearing of face mask
Uabor said: “As schools resume in the state, we have to go round to monitor compliance with government’s directive and observance of COVID-19 protocols. We are impressed with the outcome as schools visited adhered strictly to safety directives with students wearing face masks and buckets of water for hand washing seen at the entrance of the schools.”
Mr. Idoko in his observation however noted few lapses, which have been brought to the attention of principals of such schools.
In one of the school visited by the team Sir Henry Ohiokhuaboh, commended the state government for the exercise, saying the move would force schools to observe the safety guidelines to prevent the spread of the deadly pandemic.
The team will in the continuation of the exercise move to other schools to monitor the level of compliance of the government directive of the pandemic.
