Ekiti Government Prohibits Marathon Kissing Contest – Says It is Absurd, Immoral

The staging and sponsorship of a “Kiss-A-Thon” event in the state of Ekiti has been outlawed.

The state chapter of the Hoteliers Association received a letter from the government warning them against holding the event through the state’s Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism.

The words “SUGARTEE KISS-A-THON: 3-Day Kissing Marathon Date: July 7th – July 10th” are written on a flyer that journalists in the state capital of Ado Ekiti yesterday acquired about the event. In an effort to beat the record for the longest kissing marathon set by Guinness World Records.

Such an event was described as absurd and immoral in a letter signed by the state’s director of tourism, Mr. Adebanji Adelusi, on behalf of the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dele Ogunsemoyin.

“Kiss-a-thon” is scheduled to take place in Ekiti State, according to the letter, which is addressed to the state government.

‘According to information available to this Ministry, a three-day kissing marathon event called kiss-a-thon has been planned to take place on July 7th, 2023 at one of the State’s hospitality establishments.

According to reports, the goal of this event is to break a world record. “Kiss-a-thon” is a program that runs contrary to the values of the people of the state and can, therefore, cause our youth to regress morally. It is also absurd, unhealthy, immoral, and capable of damaging the state’s reputation.

“In light of the foregoing, the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism hereby prohibits the hosting of such an event or any other events similar to it in any facility that wishes to continue operating legally in Ekiti State.

“To the above, you are hereby requested to convey the content of this Notice to the members of the Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association to effectively monitor their outlets against being used negatively to cause embarrassment to the Government and People of Ekiti State. ”.
