Farmers/Herders Clashes: Police Broker Peace in Delta

Farmers/Herders Clashes: Police Broker Peace in Delta

Representatives from some agrarian communities that have witnessed several herdsmen attacks in Delta State have resonated a last demand for the total evacuation of herders from every host community in the State.

The demand was unanimously made during the farmers/herders peace meeting organised by the State Police Command at its Officers’ Mess.

Filled with rage, some of the farmers took turns narrating how their wives, daughters, and relatives were severally raped, killed and their farms destroyed with impunity; despite several official complaints to the police in their various Area Commands.

Spokesperson for Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, the Cattle Dealers Association, and Other Livestock Breeders in the State denied involvement while narrating their ordeals from farmers.

Commissioner of Police, Ari Mohammed called for peace in order to attract meaningful development.

With the just concluded farmers/herders peace meeting, there are hopes that the crisis and attendant loss of lives and property will cease.
