The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given the green light for the construction of an access road linking the Benin-Asaba expressway to the second Niger Bridge. The approval of N15 billion for the project was announced by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, during a press briefing after the FEC meeting, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja. The completion of the road is expected to help achieve the goal of inaugurating the bridge before Buhari leaves office on May 29. The contract for the project was awarded to Julius Berger at a sum of N15 billion.
In addition, the council approved N16 billion for the dualisation of Suleja-Minna road in Niger state. Abubakar Aliyu, the Minister of Power, also announced that the council had approved €3.7 million as a contract variation for the Transition Company of Nigeria (TCN) to procure equipment and complete the construction of two sub-stations that would help boost the electricity supply in the country.
These approvals demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and boosting economic growth in Nigeria. The completion of the access road and the second Niger Bridge will not only improve transportation but also facilitate trade and commerce between the eastern and western parts of the country.
