Governor Wike reveals why they backed Bola Tinubu in the presidential race.

During a stakeholders’ meeting with 48 support groups in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, revealed why he and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state worked for the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to win the February 25 presidential election.

Wike stated that he and the PDP in Rivers State supported Tinubu because they want power to return to the South. He emphasized that the next president must be a Southerner in the spirit of equity, whether it is Asiwaju or Peter Obi.

Furthermore, Wike explained that Rivers State has been at loggerheads with the federal government for the past eight years, and he wants to reconnect the state to the mainstream of governance in the country. He believes that supporting Tinubu will help achieve this goal.

Wike also mentioned that on Saturday, Rivers State will elect the youngest governor in Nigeria, Sim Fubara, for a better succession plan. He believes that Fubara is a man who understands Rivers State and will lead the state to success.

In response, the Coordinator of the APC and Tinubu support groups in Rivers State, Mr. Tony Okocha, said that the groups in the state would vote for the PDP candidate, Sim Fubara, as Governor of Rivers State this Saturday to reciprocate Wike’s support for Asiwaju.

In conclusion, Wike’s support for Tinubu was not only to bring power back to the South but also to reconnect Rivers State to the federal government. He believes that Fubara is the right candidate to lead the state to success and is confident that his support for Tinubu will be reciprocated by the APC and Tinubu support groups in Rivers State.
