In Rivers State, engagement erupts between a DPO and an inspector prompting an exchange of bullets.

The 9th Mile Police Station in Rivers State has been rocked by a shocking incident involving the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Obidike Chukwudi. Reports indicate that the DPO shot at his junior colleague, an Inspector whose name has been withheld, during an argument inside the police facility. The Inspector had been detained by the DPO for allegedly leaving his duty post.

According to multiple sources, the DPO fired the shot on Monday while the Inspector was inside the cell. This action is a clear violation of Nigeria Police Force order 237, which governs the use of firearms by police officers.

One source familiar with the incident described it as an attempted murder, stating that the DPO fired the bullet inside the cell, which misfired but still caused a bruise on the Inspector. Another source, who is a policeman, added that the incident was a violation of force order 237 and should be investigated by the authorities.

This incident is a disturbing reminder of the need for proper training and discipline within the Nigerian police force. The use of firearms should be strictly regulated and only used in situations where it is absolutely necessary to protect life and property. The authorities must take swift action to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future.
