INEC Gives Timeline on Edo, Ondo governorship Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the timetable for the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states. In a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, it was announced that the Edo Governorship election will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, while a similar election will be conducted in Ondo state on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Further details regarding the processes leading up to the elections were provided by the INEC National Commissioner. For the Edo election, party primaries will be held from February 1 to February 24, 2024. The submission of the list of nominated candidates via the online portal will begin at 9:00 am on March 4, 2024, and close at 6:00 pm on March 24, 2024.

Similarly, for the Ondo governorship elections, party primaries will be held from April 6 to April 27, 2024. The submission of the list of nominated candidates via the online portal will begin at 9:00 am on April 29, 2024, and close at 6:00 pm on May 20, 2024.

In Edo state, the final list of candidates will be published on April 23, 2024. Campaigning in public by political parties will commence on April 24, 2024, and end 24 hours prior to the election day on September 19, 2024.

For the Ondo election, the final list of candidates will be published on June 18, 2024. Campaigning in public by political parties will commence on June 19, 2024, and end 24 hours prior to the election day on November 14, 2024.
