The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, have filed a petition at the Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja to overturn Bola Tinubu’s declaration as the victor of the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
The petition, CA/PEPC/03/2023, names INEC, Tinubu, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the APC as respondents.
The petitioners want the tribunal to rule that Tinubu was not elected by a majority of legitimate ballots. They want INEC to retrieve and reissue Obi’s certificate of return.
The petitioners claimed Tinubu was ineligible to run at the time.
Corruption and Electoral Act 2022 violations invalidated the election, they claimed.
Obi asked the tribunal to annul the election and force INEC to hold a new one without Tinubu, Shettima, or the APC.
The Action Alliance and Allied Peoples Movement also filed petitions to overturn the presidential election results.
Action Alliance and its presidential candidate Solomon Okanigbuan’s petition was stamped CA/PEPC/01/2023, while the Allied Peoples’ Movement’s was CA/PEPC/04/2023.
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, is anticipated to file his petition before midnight, the deadline.
