Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, LP, has explained why he will be appealing the election results at the Court of Appeal.
On Wednesday, Obi announced that the LP will be appealing INEC’s decision not to allow them to review election materials used in the recent presidential election.
He said as much while bemoaning his inability to travel the country in support of LP governorship hopefuls.
Obi finished third, behind People’s Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and the victorious All Progressives Congress’s Bola Tinubu.
Upon learning of his loss, Obi went to the court to file a challenge and request inspection of electoral documents.
But, Obi, in a series of tweets, wrote: “I am meant to launch our whistle-stop campaign for our various Labour Party Governorship and State Assembly Candidates today. At first, I expected to travel throughout Nigeria, visiting the states of Nasarawa, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Plateau, Borno, etc.
But, after INEC’s refusal to let our party see the documents (including BVAS) from the 25th of February presidential elections, I am personally travelling to the Court with our lawyers today.
I urge all Obidients in the various states to keep campaigning for our candidates, including Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour in Lagos, Chijioke Edeoga in Enugu, Patrick Dakum in Plateau, Alex Otti in Abia, and Ken Pela in Delta, as we seek due process and defer to the rule of law.
A few examples would include Ibrahim Mshelia in Borno. It is critical that Obidients elect leaders who are Skilled, Honest, Strong, and Caring. I’m not backing down and will focus even harder on reclaiming our authority. There is hope for a brand new Nigeria!
