The University of Uyo shuts down students hostels over cult war

Authorities of the University of Uyo have shutdown students hostels in all their campuses to forestall breakdown of law and order following a cult war.

A statement issued by the Registrar, Aniediabasi Udofia directed all students residing in the hostels to vacate them with immediate effect and that those who had academic activities still running should operate from their respective homes.

According to sources, a 300-level student said to be from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences was killed on Tuesday by a rival cult group which led to a reprisal attack by members of his confraternity.

Sources further say that in carrying out the reprisal attack, the cult group shot a student of Fine Arts in a case of mistaken identity which led to tension in the school leading to the action by the school authorities.
