President-elect Bola Tinubu is set to meet with members of the Senate, House of Representatives, and the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) (NWC).
It was discovered that the high-powered delegation meeting’s main agenda item was to discuss choosing the National Assembly’s Principle Officers before the 10th Assembly’s inauguration.
The primary topic of discussion at the anticipated conference, according to a source in the House of Representatives, will be the zoning of the next Senate President to the South-East in order to maintain a balance of power among the Federation’s other geopolitical zones.
The insider, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker will come from the North Central and South-South geopolitical zones.
The congressman continued by saying;
There is already tension, but the party is resolved to lower it by doing everything in its power to zone its offices to the South East, starting with the Senate Presidency. Plans have been made to meet with our incoming president, Bola Tinubu, to discuss this.
Since 2015, the APC has not distributed leadership positions fairly. We are dedicated to changing this with the 10th Assembly, where we currently have the majority with 57 senatorial seats.
The Southeast didn’t receive the party’s backing to produce the flag bearer during our party’s primaries, which didn’t sit well with them. Now, they have another chance to show Nigerians that we are a party for everyone.
Our President-elect is a listener who loves to carry everyone along regardless of tribe or religion, and he understands how marginalized the South-East have been in the scheme of things, so the NWC are on the same page with regards to this matter even though the decision ultimately rests with the leadership of our party and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
I have no doubt that he will endorse our cause by the time we meet.
Sani Musa (APC-Niger North Senatorial District) and Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu are under consideration for the job of Deputy Senate President, it has been reported by INSIDE NIGERIA.
Idris Ahmed Wase, the current Deputy Speaker and a four-term House member, has also been predicted to become the Speaker of the 10th Parliament.
