Tobi Amusan Charged with Doping Violation

Tobi Amusan of Nigeria, the world champion and record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, has been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs.

Amusan, who vehemently protested the charge against her for skipping three required tests in a 12-month period, made the announcement on her social media account in the wee hours of Wednesday in Nigeria.

She requested privacy from the media and pledged to defend herself as a clean athlete if given permission to compete in this year’s World Championships so she could retain the 100-meter hurdles title and world record she had won at the previous World Championships in Oregon, USA.

Depending on the severity of her violation, Amusan could be banned from the track for a minimum of two years if found guilty.
