Wike vows to defend Rivers state, tackles Amaechi on bad governance

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike says he would continue to defend the state from all those who do not mean well for it; vowing never to sell the interest of the state for any amount.

Speaking at the 2023 New Year day banquet, which is his last before he bows out of office, the Governor says all those who have betrayed Rivers State will one day be made to give account for the treachery they have committed.

It’s the last New Year banquet he would be hosting as Governor of Rivers State

Governor Nyesom Wike is using the occasion to thank the people of the State and other institutions that have contributed to the enormous success recorded by his administration in the last seven and a half years.

They include: the security agencies and, most particularly, the legislature and the judiciary.

The gathering provides Governor Wike the opportunity to tackle his predecessor Rotimi Amaechi over comments he made about bad governance in the State.

He notes that under the Amaechi administration, the courts were placed under lock and key; leading to Rivers people being denied access to justice for a long time.

He says the legislature did not fare any better, as lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly were relocated to the Government House, where they were forced to sit and pass bills into laws.

Citing the report of Amaechi’s economic advisory team, Governor Wike says the period under the last administration was characterized by a lot of wastages and priorities that were largely misplaced.

He talks of how State assets like the gas turbines and aeroplanes purchased by the Peter Odili administration were sold and the proceeds diverted to private pockets.

While accusing Rotimi Amaechi of sabotaging the state of the strategic Trans- Kalabari road project, Governor Nyesom Wike says he would continue to defend Rivers State from all those who do not mean well for the state.

He is also calling on Rivers People to continue to pray and support his administration as it enters its last leg to the finish line
