Zamfara bandits kill DPO.

SP Kazeem Raheem, a Divisional Police Officer in Maru town, Maru Local Government area, Zamfara State, was reportedly killed by bandits early on March 4.

Bandits killed the DPO, a police sergeant whose name is still unknown, and a vigilante.

A person from the community told AGN that bandits were in the area to kidnap a businessman named Alhaji Ilisayu.

The source said that the bandits had taken Ilisayu’s brother hostage, but that he was released after a ransom was paid. The bandits then came back to take Ilisayu hostage, but he managed to escape while his wife was taken.

He said, “The DPO stopped the plan by sending his officers to fight the bad guys, but he died in the gunfight.”

He also said that it was a terrible experience because he woke up around 2 a.m. to the sound of heavy gunfire. He said that Maru town has been under constant attack for the past year, and many people have been taken hostage.

SP The phones of Zamfara State command spokesman Muhammad Shehu were turned off, so no one could get in touch with him.
